Agility Training: Instructors and Seminars

Depending on where you are located and if you can travel, there are lots of great Agility Instructors all over the country who can help you and your Dane become the best Agility competitors that you can be! Here is a list of my favorites, some who I've had personal experiences with and others who I've seen compete and they look like they have some good moves!

Pacific Northwest Colorado
Craig French
I've been to one short seminar with Craig and I believe he is the best Instructor there is for large-dog handlers! His Dobies weigh around 85 lbs and carry massive momentum with their speed, so he understands the large breed problems. Plus he LOVES the big dogs! Craig lives in Oregon, but does seminars all over the country.

If you are in the Pacific Northwest and can't get a Craig seminar, check with the Columbia Agility Team at www.columbiaagility.org, who host seminars with Barb Davis, LInda Mecklinberg, Stacy Peardot-Goudy and Stuart Mah / Paty Hatfield.

Peak II Peak - Sheila Lavin
Most of what I've learned regarding speed and enthusiasm has been with Sheila Lavin and at a seminar with the Boltons from England. Peak II Peak agility also hosts seminars with Jen Pinder. Check Sheila's website, www.dogagility.com for her schedule.

Stacy Peardot-Goudy
I have not yet had lessons with Stacy but I've signed up and I've heard that she is very good. She does seminars all over the country, at least one a month, although she lives in Colorado.

California NorthEast
Power Paws Camp
Power Paws Agility (run by Nancy Gyes and Jim Basic) hosts a yearly camp in May with a lot of the same instructors you'll see at the Clean Run camp on the East coast: Nancy Gyes, Jim Basic, Elicia Calhoun, Rachel Sanders, Kathie Leggett, Iain Fraser(England), Jo Sermon, (England), Pascal Peng (Switzerland), Wendy Pape, Pauleena Renee Hope, Sharon Freilich, Stacy Peardot.

Clean Run Camp
March of every year Clean Run hosts a multiple day camp in Virginia with this impressive list of instructors: Elicia Calhoun, Rhonda Carter, Steve Frick, Susan Garrett, Nancy Gyes, Linda Kipp, Kathie Leggett, Barb Lombard, Linda Mecklenburg, Joan Meyer, Wendy Pape, Stacy Peardot, Jen Pinder, Monica Percival, Pam Reid, Rachel Sanders, Jo Sermon, and Christine Zink. There's got to be something for everyone there!

Texas Florida

Flash Paws - Jane Simmons-Moake
Jane runs Golden Retrievers, my first Agility book I bought was written by her so I'll give her a little credit for getting me started! I've seen her compete, and was really impressed by the way her turbo-powered dogs get a perfect stop and contact touch every time while barely losing any time! She also does seminars all over the country, check the Flash Paws website for details!.

Rising Stars - Pati Hatfield & Stuart Mah
Well I've never been to Florida, but if I was to then I would checkout Rising Stars Dog Agility. Both Pati and Stuart run dogs in USDAA 26" and AKC 24", and have been National Champions, World Team members, well I can't name it all here. The website said, "Paty enjoys the challenge of working with a variety of breeds, including breeds not commonly seen in agility" so that pretty much says enough for her willingness to work with non border collies!

Please email me if you have had a good experience with an instructor who is good with Danes so that I can add them to this page.
